Artwork: Wood Woman Guanacaste Tree
Fabiola De Ford
From the series ‘Woman, Wood, Guanacaste’
Technique: Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 45 × 61 cm
The female figure emerges from her seed, adorned with her ‘La Choreja’ hat and clad in contrasting organic grain patterns that resemble a sophisticated, festive gown, complementing her distinctive hat from which the branches of the gigantic Guanacaste tree spring forth, fused into a single form. The shapes of the wood, the foliage and the monkeys inhabiting its branches create an image of belonging and continuity. The woman appears as a living territory: she sustains, safeguards and links cultural memory with nature.
Rather than merely depicting Guanacaste, the work seeks to express what it means to belong to a territory to the point of feeling that its nature, its history and its symbols are also part of us.
