Santa Rosa's dry forest is adapted to a climate of prolonged drought, where many plants and trees lose their leaves between November and April to conserve water. Despite the aridity, the park is home to a rich biodiversity, with species such as the Guanacaste tree, which loses its leaves in drought, and cacti such as the pitahaya, which store water, as well as animals such as the white-tailed deer.
