This piece pays tribute to the strength and beauty of Costa Rica’s tropical dry forest, one of the country’s most unique and resilient ecosystems. Inspired by the Costa Rican ₡1,000 banknote, the design celebrates our natural and cultural identity through original hand-painted illustrations by Fabiola De Ford.

At the center of the composition stands the majestic Guanacaste tree, a national symbol of strength, endurance, and generosity. Its canopy spreads in an elegant radial asymmetry; the branches unfurl in organic shapes that evoke the forest's natural movement, guiding the eye across the composition and creating a sense of balance and harmony.

Surrounding the tree, the pitahaya blooms in intense fuchsia-pink hues, providing a vibrant color contrast that illuminates the landscape and symbolizes the abundance of the tropical dry forest. Its flowers and climbing fruits intertwine delicately with the branches, celebrating the ecosystem's extraordinary botanical richness.

Wildlife also holds a special place in the artwork. The white-tailed deer—a symbol of elegance and freedom—moves silently through its natural habitat, while the white-throated magpie-jay and the turquoise-browed motmot add dynamism and character to the scene, reminding us of the diverse species inhabiting the forests of Guanacaste.
