Artist Statement
My artistic practice stems from contemplation, writing and reflection on the human experience. Through painting and mixed media, I explore themes related to identity, personal transformation, inner freedom, emotional and spiritual restoration, hope, the value of women, family and the human capacity to grow beyond one’s circumstances.
Much of my work emerges from moments of silence and observation, where I find inspiration in processes of introspection, as well as in universal principles relating to faith, human dignity and renewal. My aim is not to illustrate religious concepts literally, but to translate profound experiences of healing, resilience, purpose and abundance into images that allow for multiple levels of interpretation.
The female figure occupies a central place in my work. I use her as a symbol of strength, vulnerability, beauty, memory and transformation. Through her, I explore the relationship between the inner and outer worlds, between wounds and healing, and between personal history and the possibility of a new beginning.
Visually, my work is developed within a symbolic figurative language influenced by contemporary Impressionism. I am interested in creating poetic atmospheres where the narrative emerges through gesture, light, colour and symbolic elements. I have worked with acrylic, oil, watercolour and and mixed media, occasionally incorporating textiles and silk as part of my material research.
My artistic training is complemented by over a decade of experience in art education within international institutions, where I have supported young artists in their creative and visual development processes. This teaching experience has enriched my understanding of art as a tool for communication, reflection and human transformation.
Throughout my career, I have taken part in solo and collective exhibitions at various cultural venues and galleries in Costa Rica. These include a solo exhibition at the La Botica Solera Cultural Centre, as well as group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Costa Rica, Sol Gallery, Fine Art Gallery Azula Vela, Marina Flamingo and various cultural venues in Tamarindo and Guanacaste.
I am currently developing an artistic practice that seeks to foster dialogue on hope, identity, freedom and human potential, creating works that invite the viewer to reflect on their own stories of transformation and growth.
